Future Goals Essay
Looking Forward: Lifelong Learner
As mentioned in my Goal Reflection Essay, I had an original goal in mind when deciding to pursue my graduate degree: to improve my teaching practices and techniques which will broaden my ability to ensure student success. I am a lifelong learner of all things education. I decided to obtain my Master of Arts in Education (MAED) degree in hopes of becoming a better educator. Currently, I am in my final semester of the MAED program and have learned an invaluable amount of knowledge that will benefit my students for years to come. Even though I am almost finished with my MAED, I plan on continuing my education through professional development, becoming a Google Educator, and becoming a leader in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Doing so will allow me to continue learning the ever-changing aspects of education.
Even though I have soon earned a master’s degree and have years of experience teaching, I plan on continuing my education in order to reach my goal of improving my teaching practices and techniques. This will broaden my ability to ensure student success. I am a lifelong learner of all things education. With the ever-changing times, I plan on attending professional development courses in various subjects in order to keep up to date on recent developments in teaching practices and techniques. I can do so through conferences and lectures provided by Wayne RESA and other educational service agencies. Another aspect that will allow me to continue my education is obtaining a Google Educator certification. This will facilitate, inspire, and reach different types of student learning on Google applications. With gaining knowledge of teaching practices, I also plan on learning how to be a leader with classroom management. Through PBIS, I can recognize positive behavior within students in my classroom and at my school. I can make them feel comfortable and valued when they step into my classroom through recognizing positive behavior. Not only will I have the knowledge on how to do so in my own classroom, but I will gain knowledge on how to help other teachers manage their classroom through positive reinforcement from PBIS. I look forward to continuing my life long journey of improving my teaching practices.
Professional Development courses offer teachers opportunities to gain knowledge beyond what they learned in college. I plan on continuing my education through attending various professional development courses through my school district and outside of my school district. I believe attending professional development courses will give me the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience through the conferences, lectures, and meetings. I plan on attending professional development courses through Wayne County’s Regional Educational Service Agency also known as Wayne RESA. There I can attend courses on various topics in order to improve my teaching practices and techniques.
Not only do I plan to gain knowledge through professional development, I also believe becoming a certified Google Educator will also improve my teaching practices. In order to offer my students the best educational experience, I believe that becoming a Google Educator will allow me to reach all the different types of learners. Incorporating Google for Education into my classroom will enhance my teaching and my students’ learning. Technology is becoming more and more involved in our daily lives. I want to be able to use technology to its fullest potential in order to give my students other opportunities than lectures and paper and prepare them for their futures. I plan on doing so through the free training courses offered from Google for Education.
Along with gaining knowledge about teaching practices through professional development and Google for Education, I plan to become a leader in student behavior management. I believe that students need to feel valued, supported, and happy in order to succeed in my classroom. I believe that a classroom will run smoothly if the students’ positive behavior is recognized. This can be achieved through implementing a program called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Teachers can become a PBIS leader at their school. I aspire to become a leader in PBIS in order to improve my teaching practices and help other teachers reach similar goals. I believe obtaining the knowledge of a PBIS leader will allow me to create a classroom environment that will breed student success within behavior and academics.
